I assist my father financially & wanted to know if I could deduct this from my taxes?

I do not claim him as a dependant, but I send my father 500.00 a month (he lives off of his social security and the money I send him). This is a significant portion of my income, is there any way that I can deduct this from my taxes?

Thanks!

I think he has to live with you. However, I did see something the other day about being able to claim this if you are paying his mortgage. 'Don't know if that is the case, but best of luck!

Why not claim his as a dependent? Look into that.
