Can a person stay in the home they own and still have Medicaid pay for full or partial care day visits?

We want mom to stay in her home as long as possible.
Someone is there in the evening
She is physically independent
Most of her kids live out of town

Yes. Medicaid has a program specifically geared to keeping elders in their home (and out of expensive nursing homes) as long as possible. My mother had various in-home help paid through this program for several years in her small apartment. She has just moved in with my sister, and the aid will continue there, through a different county.

This program also covers attending adult day care programs.

Call her county Social Services and ask for a needs assessment. They can advise you if Mom is a good candidate for this program, and how to apply.

Good luck!
