My mother is dying. Can I take her ashes from the crematorium or is it a requirement to involve a funeral home?

I heard that a person can't legally take the cremated remains, and that they must have a funeral home transport the ashes. But I don't want to use a funeral home for any reason.

Who did you hear this from? Why don't you call a crematorium in your state and ask?
