Should we accept the responsibility of Power of Attorney for our friends?

We have a couple (92 & 94 yrs) that need help. Mentally they are both excellent. Physically they are going down hill. They have two daughters 3000 miles away that want nothing to do with their parents.
The couple is requesting that we handle all of their affairs. Their funds are limited. We just want to make sure they don't end up on the streets.
Should we accept the responsibility of POA or not?

The POA is going to be for finances & health. Right now I am fighting with the Rehab place the Mister is in. They are treating him very badly.

I think as long as you're willing to make the hard decisions when it comes to their care, there isn't a problem. And even though you say they have limited resources, be willing and able to stand your ground for them when/if their daughters show up again and want POA and they don't want them to. POA is only good for finances though, so who are they expecting to manage their health concerns in the future?
That's a whole other can of worms. If you do this for them, then kudos to you and yours.
