TENCHITA1 Asked March 2012

Can I claim my parent on my taxes if I pay for someone to care for them?

EXPERT Carol Bradley Bursack, CDSGF Mar 2012
Since your parent doesn't live with you it may be harder to deduct that expense, however if you provide half of the living expenses you may be able to do this. You should check with a CPA to see what is legal in your case. Good luck,
Carol

TENCHITA1,

Check out our AgingCare article "Tax Tips for Caregivers: Claiming a Parent as a Dependent." I think you will be able to find the answer to your tax question here.
