My father has COPD and is dependent on oxygen. I believe it is time for a nursing home, but I don't know where to start?

My father also has a weak immune system, vision and hearing issues. He is a veteran and recieves social security disability.

And on a side note - 20+ prescription drugs? I would immediately get a medication review by his pharmacist to ensure his Rx's aren't counteracting with others he is taking, thus making some of them ineffective.

yeah, given that situation, a nursing home seems like the best alternative. I will pray that your search leads you to the best one.

Well, here is a little more about his current living situation. He and my mother live together. My mother menta health is shaky. Her priorities in life are 1-my drug adict brother, 2-her 8 cats, 3-her job. My father is on 20+ perscription drugs and needs help managing them and his doctors appointments. I live 3 hours away and I am not able to support with the daily care of my father. I would like him to move in with me, but he doesn't want to disrupt my life. He needs to be in a stress free environment with no drama and my mother cannot provide him with that.

My first question is what are needing that you think a nursing home could provide?
Nursing homes are not the only alternative. My mother who was in a similar situation was able to stay home with hospice and home health aides. You can start by evalutation your fathers needs and limitations, than you can decide what is the best choice for your situation
