Can I put $10,000.00 in my mom's name into an insurance irrevocable funeral trust just before she applies for Medicaid?

My mom is in rehab and about to be admitted to a nursing home. I want to protect her $$ from being taken by the nursing home.

You should be able to actually go ahead and pay for your mom's funeral in advance. That way you don't have to worry about having the funds to pay for it later and you also lock in today's rate.
