My father wants to live at home. My sister and I agree that he needs a lot of daily care, but he doesn't think he does. How can we pay ourselves to care for him?

What do we need to do?

He is insisting he doesn't need help, yet he doesn't cook or eat if we're not there at meal time.He doesn't take his meds by himself and throws important mail away ,we have to check trash bags daily. He has lost most of his speach.his long term memory is fairly good but not short term.I doubt he would agree to pay anyone.

First, has your father agreed that you will be paid to take care of him?
If he has, then you need to figure out how much in-home care would cost if he paid and agency or private caregiver. If you charge him for services, I would not charge him for "room and board" as well, becuase these are included in most ALFs.
Check with your attorney or accountant, because, in essence, he is "hiring" you to take care of him - you would be his employee. There are tax implications: http://www.irs.gov/businesses/small/article/0,,id=229048,00.html
