Why does my mom get the feeling that she is falling when she goes to sit down?

My first thought was it's an inner ear thing, but when you get old it could be blood pressure drop. I'd be taking her to the doctor and have it checked out. Once she stands up and the feeling that she's falling hits her, she'll be hitting the ground.
