My Uncle lives in a nursing home. How much of his own money, in his bank accounts, can he keep? He has Medicaid and Medicare.

EXPERT Ralph Robbins, CFP® Sep 2010
If you uncle is on Medicaid and is applying for nursing home benefits he will not be permitted to have more than $2,000 in cash assets in 2010. This includes all bank accounts, stocks, bonds, life insurance, annuities, etc.
He cannot have income of over $2,022 per month in 2010.
