My mother is in a nursing home after breaking her hip. Her house is empty, so could I hire a housesitter? How much are they paid?

Could I hire a family member? Are there any problems that I might run into by hiring a family member? I am thinking that if she doesn't return home and eventually needs Medicaid to cover nursing home costs, might there be a problem with the 7 year look back that a family member was paid?

While my mother-in-law was in the nursing home for a broken hip, her house also was empty. We didn't have anyone stay there for the 8 weeks she was gone, and she did have to go asst living when she left. My husband and I both would go over to her house once in awhile, he to mow the yard, me to check on stuff. We never saw a reason for anyone to be in her house while she was in rehab. Now, my son and his wife are renting her house which makes her happy that she can help them when they needed to find a place to live. Plus he takes care of the yard/house maintenance now, win win.
