Can I be compensated for helping an elderly friend with his home care and driving to doctor appointments?

One thing I thought of, but, I don't know if it apply's here:

When you volunteer for an organization(I think non-profit), the hours you put in & also gas, etc is tax deductible. Maybe see if volunteering here follows the same rules? Just a suggestion worth checking into.

Visit your state's website and look for Aging Services. They should be able to tell you if there are financial programs in your area for this.
