Mom is in an adult assisted facility and the only asset she has left is her house. Her money will run out next month, so will Medicare just take the house?

Mom has been in an adult assisted facility. "they say they don't have enough nurses to be called a nursing home". Her money will run out next month. She signed the family home over less than 5 years ago to the 4 adult children. Can we simply let the government have it? Only one of the kids lives anywhere near mom. The house isn't up to code. Any help would be appreciated.

I'd see an attorney about this. Medicare doesn't pay for any care of this kind. Medicaid does pay, if she is on Medicaid, but generally only for nursing homes. But there are waivers in some areas of the country. See an estate attorney who knows Medicaid laws for help. Good luck,
Carol
