Are Medicaid benefits worth the necessary spend-down?

Has anyone taken the medicaid route? And if so is the spend down worth it?

Roxlang, it depends on what you mean by "worth it." My Dad needed to be in a Nursing Home, and his insurance wouldn't cover the costs. We had no choice, as his assets didn't cover it. It is an incredible amount of work to qualify, but worth it, if needed. Each situation is different. Do you have other options? Hope that helps, a bit. Take care.

The longer you have money, the better. Sometimes the care you receive on medicaid is really inferior. Where we live, they can put you where they want and it is not always the best place. I am trying to make mom's money stretch for 2 more years. Then the trust's 5 year look back will make the money inaccessible to the government. Have you spoken to an elder care lawyer?
