What are the going rates for an in home hired caregiver?

What are the going rates for a giver. I need help I am on the verge of a break down. I need to know if it is me or them. I want to be fair. I have known these people for 20 years. 24 hour work days are killing me.

Depends on where you live and the level of care required. For a caregiver to come in and do some housecleaning, make meals for Mom, take her to the bathroom and assist her with showering, I paid $20 per hour through an agency - and the caregiver advised me that they only get $10 per hour. The rest goes to the agency.

When I looked into in my area it ranged from $12 when mom just needed a companion and driver to $35 as things progressed. We only used a paid caregiver for about 8 months for a few days per week.

Hi Karen
I currently work as a Personal Care Giver, these fees varies, If you shoud contact an agency you could pay $20-$30 per hour. You can get help at a fair rate but you have to do some work, their ads in your local newspaper, senior papers and so forth, after which you can get a background check for $14 and get at least 4 references from these people, dont be afaird theie are some good help out there you have to just know where to find them. when you do it this way you will get a very good person at a great rate between $13-418 per hour or even better if you need a livein help you can get services for under $170 per 24 hour. hope this help

Looks like it varies greatly by state but runs anywhere from $14-$23/hour. See this link: http://www.aarp.org/families/caregiving/state_ltc_costs.html
