Another essay to make you think and remind you to slow down and appreciate the NOW!

Since y'all liked the last one here is another favorite.
The Station
by Robert J. Hastings
Tucked away in our subconscious is an idyllic vision. We see ourselves on a long trip that spans the continent. We are traveling by train. Out the windows we drink in the passing scene of cars on nearby highways, of children waving at a crossing, of cattle grazing on a distant hillside, of smoke pouring from a power plant, of row upon row of corn and wheat, of flatlands and valleys, of mountains and rolling hillsides, of city skylines and village halls.
But uppermost in our minds is the final destination. On a certain day at a certain hour we will pull in to the station. Bands will be playing and flags waving. Once we get there so many wonderful dreams will come true and the pieces of our lives will fit together like a completed jigsaw puzzle. How restlessly we pace the aisles, damning the minutes for loitering--waiting, waiting, waiting for the station.
"when we reach the station, that will be it!" we cry. "When I'm 18", "When I buy a new Mercedes Benz!" "When I put the last kid through college!" "When I have paid off the mortgage!" "When I get a promotion!" "When I reach the age of retirement, I shall live happily ever after!"
Sooner or later we must ralize there is no station, no one place to arrive at once and for all. The true joy of life is the trip. The station is only a dream. It constantly out distances us. "Relish the moment" is a good motto. It isn't the burdens of today that drive men mad, it is the regrets over yesterday and the fear of tomorrow. Regret and fear are twin thieves who rob us of today.
So, stop pacing the aisles and counting the miles. Instead, climb more mountains, eat more ice cream, go barefoot more often, swim more rivers, watch more sunsets, laugh more, cry less. Life must be lived as we go along. The station will come soon enough.

On a personal note..I'm all for anything that encourages me to go barefoot and eat more ice cream!

Just think, when Christmas Day arrives, there will be joy! at the station.

Oh, I think if you're gonna have a junk food day you should just go for it. Then eat really good for the next little while. Depriving yourself of good food all the time is impossible. If you are mostly good then why not, I say. I know you were just being funny Send. :)

The only thing unbelievable is that I would confess to it.

Well, I don't really blame you Gershun, I was just trying to be funny.
But I did eat that many donuts, and two were not the little round ones, they were rectangle. Had to cut them in half, eat the remaining half two hours later.
The donut store was easier to go inside, and I was ready for this.
The fritos don't really go with the donuts, so I ate them separately.
Slept in until late that next morning.

Oh, Send Me, no you did not...............LOL Hey you know that old song. "I Get by with a Little Help from my Friends" Add junk food and you've got a deal. I just know that chocolate and chips are one of the 5 food groups.:)

At least with ice cream, the side effects can be predicted and mitigated with lactaid.

Oh, is this off-topic?
Already passed 18; owned the Mercedes Benz; only kid put himself through college; paid off 2 mortgages on 2 homes; Retired after 65;
and I am relishing the moment I can get into the shower tonight.

Row upon row of corn, is that where 'wild corn babies' come from? See Midkid---- I know nothing!

Jessebelle, Just had a junk food day of my own, 4 donuts and 1/2 bag of Chili flavored Fritos. In the middle of the night, awakened, tried to close my eyes.
Now I know what they meant by visions of Sugarplums dancing in their heads meant. Or maybe the swirling colors behind my eyelids were what many describe as a LSD trip, everytime I closed my eyes this played like a movie screen on the back of my eyelids.
Go ahead and have your donuts, chocolate is great, as well as Cronuts.!!!
If you usually eat healthier, the side effects may take awhile to recover from.

I blame Gershun for the bad influence of suggesting junk food. Lol!

Think I'll have one of those doughnuts I've been avoiding. :)
