Mom had sentimental & valuable jewelry stolen within a week of arriving at a local facility that has an excellent reputation.

She is 85 and independent but unable to live on her own. Living with us is not an option. We chose this wonderful facility, but, unfortunately, even background checks cannot prevent a thief who's never been caught. Just an FYI for anyone who is considering a facility for a loved one. PLEASE remember to remove, hide or lock up (in a small hotel-style safe that's bolted down) sentimental and valuable jewelry. In the end, they are just things, but this experience has taken its toll. The good news is the facility re-keyed her door lock and only the 2 Directors have keys (and me, of course). But they were slow to respond and my mother lost quite a few items. She will stay there because the facility is a well-known faith-based organization with, as it turns out, one or two bad eggs.
