Alzheimers and Power of Attorney

My mother has alzheimers and is unable to care for herself. She cannot make simple decisions, she is very forgetful, easily disoriented, and is getting painfully thin. At what point in her deterioration should I enforce my Power of Attorney in order to ensure her wellbeing? Can anyone help?

Unless you have a DURABLE power of attorney, I believe there is little you can do.

It seems like a psych evaluation would be in order before she harms herself.

If you can talk to her primary care physician and see if he can help. (S)he will be able to invoke a durable power of attorney if (s)he deems her incompetent.
