I'm asking for my sister who actually cares for my mom and dad . He is 94,handicapped, crazy with paranoia and dementia and sundown demetia

home hospice came to evaluate after a 2 day hospital stay (another small stroke) and said they cant do anything without his consent. He was suspicious as soon as they arrived, then rude, and ignorant. What should we have done to prepare for this state of things? How do we get control over his decision making? My mom is there also . she is 84, not exactly healthy, has recurring shingles right now and up until this week she swore she would take care of him until the end. I am worried that it will be her end first. what should we do? Apparently the doctor he has had for years is not much help.

I think what you are referring to is sundowners syndrome that accures at dusk or later afternoon or early evening. That is a behavior often seen with folks who have dementia or alzheirmer's disease. Paranoia is a completely differant symptom or manifestation of dementia. Someone you or your sister need to get power of attorney forms and take some control. take care, J
