Sis was diagnosed earlier this year. She wants to attend an event which means a lot to her, 3 separate days over next month or so, and I promised I would take her. It's at our state fairgrounds - fairly large area. She does fairly well getting around and not lost, likely because I'm always within sight when I take her shopping. What I'm hoping to find is some gadget - perhaps an app on a phone - that would locate her if she happens to wander off or be disoriented. I'd like for her to have some freedom to 'visit' with friends without me appearing to be sticking like glue. I use an iPhone (iOS platform) but she has an Android mobile phone and I don't think such an app, if it exists, would work cross-platform. If she should get lost or disoriented, she could always call me but I'm looking for the invisible type monitoring where I'll know where she is. Somewhat like the map app with the blue dot that shows where you are...in this case it would show where she is...maybe. Thoughts?

Don't look at me as I am tech inept, but not comparing your mom to a canine, I know there are some pup tracking devices out there and it might be a less expensive route to go....also wonder if the Alzheimer's assn might have some ideas....

This indicates a number of free APPs that work for Android and iOS (not sure what the BUY link is... perhaps it is the only way to "get" the APPs, even when free. I generally never add anything to my phone, just delete a lot of crap I won't use! I also have not tried any or read much of the details.) Not all offerings work on both, but the article indicates which ones are available for both phones.

One concern - might she put the phone down, aka misplace/lose it, or turn it off? Since the phone APPs listed on the above site are free, certainly get one of those, but a tracking device like the one MJ1929 posted would be good to have as well, something you can attach to her clothing, just in case! While the detail for that tile indicates this will work with either OS, it seems to have a limited range. Someone posted a comment saying it has to have a set location, like home, as it is intended to find things misplaced in the home, like a phone or keys. Problem user posted was when out of range of the WiFi, it drains the battery.

If you have time, put the following into the search bar and read through the various responses to the search:

"tracking device for person with dementia"

One hit I thought might be useful seemed to be linked to Alz, but the last update/post date was 2018!!! There might be more, better and/or less expensive options out there now.

See if your Police Dept offers something.

There are things that you can put on luggage that will track where it is. They should work with any phone.
There are tags you can put on a dogs collar that will track the dog.
Check with the Alzheimer’s Association they may have options as well. You can call or you can purchase on line, or at least see what options they have.

Those little Apple tiles or Airtags are nice--you would have to see what the range is...
