Is there a way to change an adult diaper while the person is seated?

My mother is 97 with dementia and won't stand. She is able to, but won't (part of the dementia). However, she will transfer herself from one chair to another as long as they are pushed together. Anyway, I use a shower chair to take her to the bathroom and to clean and change her. The problem is, since she won't stand, it's impossible to pull up her pants. It takes 2 people and I need to figure a way to do everything with one person. With adaptive pants, she can be dressed but I'm at a loss for finding a way to put a tabbed diaper on her while she is seated. I've tried pulling it from front to back but it proves too difficult. Does anyone know a fool-proof way to accomplish this? She barely weighs 98 lbs. and hates to be lifted. Thank you.

Look into getting a Sit To Stand.
Trust me it made my life so much easier.
You place a wide padded belt around the person. There are loops you attach tot he arms of the Sit to Stand and place the feet on the platform.
The arms of the Sit to Stand rise up and lifts the person to a standing position. From there you can easily drop the pants down and change them or the sit to stand has wheels so you can move it to another chair to to the bed. once near the chair or bed you lower the arms and the person is seated on the chair or bed. You move the feet off the platform and unhook the straps, remove the padded belt.
the padded belt is very wide, gives a lot of security and it is cushioned so that it does not hurt the chest, back, under arms.
Once a person can no longer support themselves a switch to a Hoyer Lift is the safer way to go.

My only suggestion is to check out the Get-U-Up lift from Invacare. It is easier to use than Hoyer lift. It uses a color coded sling that goes under the arms and around the person’s back. Lifts are usually covered by Medicare as well.

That is one of the reasons they are changed on a schedule at the nursing home, it is pretty much impossible unless they use the lift🤔. What if you skip the diaper and just place a disposable underpad beneath her?

hugs.

in my experience:
we cut (with scissors) the adult diaper the person is wearing, while they’re seated. we take off the pants. then we put a new adult diaper (the person must lift the feet up a bit). same with putting on pants again.

Hmmm. Sounds good....Do you use a pull-up or a side-tab adult diaper? How do you get it under the person's backside?
