I need a special kind of transportation to my doctors. Any advice?

Didn't add to my post, but goes without saying this van had a side lift for wheelchairs of all sizes.

I used the "care a van" but this morning on my local news station they featured a company called "dial a ride", that transports to Dr appt or grocery store or even beauty shop. They charge $5. Per ride and was on tv because they need more funding to operate. Lady interviewed had both legs removed and said she couldn't get in a car and was greatful for this service and the cost was easy. Check your area for something like this. We are in northeast Florida

In my county it's called " care-a-van" I had to use them
once when I had to be at hospital at 5am and didn't want
family to have to do it. Medicare paid for it as well. Check
neighborhood newspaper and see listings there also. Some
Senior centers have volunteers that transport to Dr and groceries.

Tell the doctors office the problem and see if they have advice. Some health insurance coverage will provide transportation to medical appointments.

As others have said - call your local senior center/program or aging agency. These programs EXIST TO HELP ELDERS and their families/caregivers. They are part of the SOCIAL SAFETY NET (that some people complain about funding!). EVERYONE needs help at some time in their life (except the 1%ers).

Your local senior program will have the resources to help you or will be able to refer you to an organization that can - which will be funded by federal, state, and sometimes also charitable giving (individual donations).

Hi Grammy, I agree call Area Agency on Aging they are full of resource information. You could also call local senior center. If you share zip may have more specific info for you. Dont worry there is help out there just have to hunt it down.

Definitely call your local Area Agencyon Aging, they should have a list of transportation services in your area. Here in Terre Haute, Indiana we have something called "Wheels to the World" that you can apply for thru the city bus department.

Hi Grammy, if you tell us what town you live in, we can do some research for you about available services. I know where I live (a suburb of Chicago) there are a lot of services available to get seniors to doctor's visits. These are available through volunteer organizations, churches, and township offices. So you could start with any of those kinds of places. We also have Pace buses and vans that can take seniors to doctor's visits.

Or you could call your Area Agency on Aging to find out what kinds of services are available for transportation.
