Anyone know of a professional service to fly my Mom from her nursing home?

My mother has dementia. I live in Arizona and want her closer to me so I can know that she is being treated properly. I want to fly her from St. Louis, MO to a facility in Sun City, AZ. It's difficult to take care of her long distance even though I am her POA.

Does Angelflight hire the plane? Because $18,600 is a BOATLOAD of money! Just saying ! I don't know either of these companies but you should check any agency out with the BBB before hiring anyone just to make they are legit and are a reputable business.

It is over 21 hours drive so that's not an option. It is less than 3hr flight and looking at prices it's about $150 a person so rough estimate- $450 (to cover one flight to MO and 2 leaving to AZ), CNA (Certified Nurse Assistant) for the whole day $225 so it comes to $675 (if it happens in 1 day) plus food allowance (no more than $50-$100) for both Mother and CNA. Hope your Mother will be much closer to you soon!

Yes, I have used a service...and everything turned out well; if you are still interested I can give you the Owner's name/number. I had to transport/fly my aunt who has Alzheimer's to Phx from Ohio......and I was so relieved to get help....at a reasonable cost! I found the move to where family was had a much better effect than leaving her in Ohio with someone to look out for her.

If she's settled where she is, the move might not be good for her. Do you have friends or relatives in St Louis who could keep an eye on her??

18,000?? Shoot, I'll drive up and get her myself for half that (no guarentee's though). Have you considered hiring a trained nurse for a week (large male nurse to help with lifting and such would be nice) and the two of you fly up and rent a car to drive back together with mom. Still costly, but a fraction of what you were quoted from angelflight.

My family moved grandma from IL. to Tucson and it was a disaster. The move was just too much for her. The climate and scenery was too different. Within a week of being here, her son had to fly first class with her back to a NH, in IL.

Good luck. I just do not know of a good way to get your mom to Sun City.

Wow, I thought they did it for free? I wonder if you could hire some kind of medical transport to drive her? There was a thread a while back about something like this...let me see if I can find it.

They are the ones I called and they want $18,600. That's an awful lot of money. Hate to spend so much money when Mom will eventually have to get on Medicaid (actually about 5 months after I get her here if I spend that money).

You could check out these folks I have no personal experience with them, so can't vouch for them or say whether you might be qualified for their services. But if you're not, they might point you in the right direction. angelflight
