My Dad (100) and has recently been moved to a board and care home. He screams at night any suggestions?

He was recently prescribed Ativan 0.25 mg but it has not helped. He is becoming more demanding and belligerent. Any suggestions on other medications? I'm afraid if he keeps this up he will be asked to leave.

Bless you, ReneaP1960. What a great approach. And even if it doesn't work, there aren't going to be any side effects!

Ativan even the low dose may help some. It is my experience as an ALF Administrator that he is trying to communicate something...he may just not be ready to sleep. Typically I walked with the Residents or set and talked with them (if they were in the mood to chat). He may just be upset over the move and will calm down when more aware of his surroundings. Best of luck, I am not sure if I can so I won't post my number to offer help....

He may very well be asked to leave. These homes cannot have a resident new or otherwise upset the fragile balance in the home. Call his doctor immediately a different medication may be in order. Was he screaming before the move?

Ativan .25 is a cowardly low dose for such behavior. Up it to .5 and remember it is fast acting but short acting. Kicks in 15 min, gone in 4 hrs. So you repeat or find something that works longer. There are longer acting anxiety meds like Klonopin (clonazepam). I hope he has an MD with expertise in the aging brain. ALSO if Dad liked to consume alcohol at home and now can't get any, you will have to deal with his withdrawal from it.
