My mom is losing her sight and over that she is having dry eyes. We didn't give much importance to her vision, although she has been complaining for a long time, and we took it in the sense that she was just making reasons to avoid doing things. Later we had a doubt and got her checked at Evergreen Eye Center, Washington. The report revealed that she is suffering from vision loss and dry eye. We've now planned treating for the dry eye by next week and it seems like she is getting a new treatment for dry eye, called LipiFlow.

Thank you! I have been discussing this issue with my husband, who avoids ANY doctor (at the point of always needing to go to the ER and then be admitted into the hospital). Now I can avoid another argument and have him READ this!

Great write up detailing every aspect of elderly eye care. It is very important that one knows what vision problems are attributable to old age and when help should be sought.

I suggest you call the division of motor vehicles as well as your physician and eye doctor and explain the dilemma. Some states require or can administer a new driving test (with doctor recommendation) before renewing a license. If all else fails, just put your foot down! No one with diminished driving skills has the right to consciously jeopardize another life due to their "pride". God Bless your patience.

The idea of my spouse going blind from diabetes complications terrifies me. Worse yet, is the idea that he may hurt himself and others from his refusal to acknowledge that his sight has been affected and driving is very strained. He is so proud and this kills him, but at what point do you hide the keys and say "no more"!
