MIL suffered a stroke in her left eye many yrs. ago and now has advanced AMD in both. She currently resides in a AL facility. She is 89 yrs. old. She is a high risk for a fall. My question is : should she be receiving more specialized care for her condition at the ALF. They have her classified as a tier one, and are providing no additional assistance for her.

I don't want to be a downer or cause unnecessary fear in anyone, but telling people they will never become bling because of AMD is a bit disingenuous. Granted treatments have been developed since my mom's diagnosis 20 years ago, but being left with 10% vision in one eye due to a massive bleed and then losing the majority of the vision in her "good" eye since then has left her with profound vision loss... maybe not blind as in a totally dark world, but functionally (and legally) she has been blind for years.

Excellent article on AMD which I have started in both eyes (dry). Decided to print it out and discovered there were two more pages of info. I'm in my 80s.....GTH
