Wow! What a GREAT idea. Every city should have one.

It's crazy to try to adapt to an Alzheimer's schedule of day sleeping and awake at night. That is exactly why I HAD to place my mom in a facility. I can't be awake all day (to live a "normal" life) and all night to watch her. No one can be superhuman.

I watch my 52 year old best friend (who has multiple serious health conditions) being the primary caregiver of her 93 yr. old grandma, (who does NOT have dementia, she's just plain demanding). Grandma doesn't nap during the day and she also doesn't sleep straight through the night either. My friend is often up 3 times a night with her. She also wakes up the rest of the family who have to go to work. She's on enough drugs to put a "normal" person out for hours but it doesn't do any good. Without the drugs, she's worse. My buddy is a wreck, physically and mentally. I told her that she has 30+ years left to live but granny only has a couple at best. And not to abuse her body and mind to the point that she won't be able to enjoy those 30 years. She has finally hired a caregiver for one day (24 hr.) shift per week to catch a break and do errands.

I'm sure this would be a welcome relief for her and all caregivers of dementia sufferers and the elderly who just don't/won't sleep or want to be alone. Too bad there's not one in every neighborhood!
