I'm excited to hear about the FDA approval of over-the-counter hearing aids. What are your thoughts? https://abbyseniorcare.com/hearing-aids-are-now-available-over-the-counter/

I have to share this product with you all because it helped my grandfather out tremendously with his hearing troubles! It is called The Audio Fox and is a set of personal TV speakers. Before I got him a set, I could not have a conversation with him or be in the same room as him while he watched tv. I highly recommend them!

Where can I find a good phone with the flashing light when it rings. My mother is almost deaf and cannot hear any phone ring if she does not have both hearing aids in. Where can I find a hearing aid compilable phone that is loud and also has the flashing light to warn her the phone is ringing?

I would appreciate any information you may have.

Sunny:)

We had to take my mom to Urgent Care for a bad sore throat and cough that had started. During the exam, they checked her ears and asked if she had had any hearing problems of late. We said yes, why? She had an accumulation of wax in her right ear. We were instructed to get an appointment with an ENT (ear, nose and throat doctor), use a product called DeBrox ear drops according to package directions for several days before the appointment and it would soften the wax, which would allow the doctor to remove it more easily. My mom cooperated with this more easily than any home procedures because it was, after all, a doctors appointment. Of course, we didn't remind her ahead of time why we were going to the ENT or she may have balked as she didn't think there was anything wrong with her ears and she couldn't be convinced because they didn't hurt her. As time goes on with a dementia patient or even a stubborn elder without dementia, I have found that caregivers must get into the mindset where it is necessary, even important for the patient's health and well being, to camouflage circumstances, even said to them, in order to accomplish things that need to be done. It's often a difficult flip in philosophy since we have always been taught that honesty is the best policy. I have found that this is unfortunately no longer the case with dementia or cranky elderly patients, sorry to say.

And sometimes the problem is largely an accumulation of ear wax! Something simple my 90 year old mother will not get cleaned out. Been 2.5 years at least since I did battle to get that done. She gets her teeth cleaned religiously. Why the difference?

Hearing loss has become a major problem in teens today. Some specialists say that the main cause of this problem is listening to music in loud volume. My mother also having the hearing loss problem so I know how difficult it is to communicate with a hard of hearing person. Sometimes it becomes really hard for her to join the normal conversations. She has to ask the people to repeat themselves.
