As a patient in a nursing home i know firsthand the tipe of treatment you receive in this places a least here in NYC they have the option of not taking the job when offer the pay so why are we the patients have the mistreatmentbecause you don't get pay enough.

Carol, thank you for the update on nursing homes. In my area, I am seeing more and more 55+ communities spouting up all over the horizon. Developers can't build them fast enough. But the nursing homes aren't keeping pace with the other developments. Don't know if it be because profits are so slim, the cost of land and labor, the cost of malpractice insurance, or what.

As a boomer, we need change come faster in our nursing facilites than what are currently available. Quite frankly the one my wife is currently in is a dump. However due to the predatory pricing of the whole industry, it was the best we could afford. The whole industry needs to be regulated to where care is both affordable and compassionate. I feel for the caregivers who work at my wife's nursing home. They are paid so little for the tremendous jobs they do day in and day out. If there was ever a need for a union this is one.
