I took my mom to her GERIATRIC psychiatrist and her primary care doctor. They both told her she HAS to have 24/7 care, or go back to the nursing home I got her out of. Her weight was 77 pounds, and now 11 months later (at home) she weighs 107. I think I am doing a great job as conservator and DAUGHTER. She is impossible. She does not want to particiapte in any senior center activities, and actually thinks she needs no care at all. She calls me 20 times a day! My sister who lives in Florida is no help at all. She also wants my mom to have no care-givers, because she has been use to my mother writing her checks to the amount of over $200,000.00 since 2002! She even had her pay for an &18,000.00 car! We went to PROBATE, and the judge was angry and said my sister is "SHUT OFF" for good. Sister still snubs the Judge and calls asking for money, all the time! Probate is being harassed by her as well, and they send me copies of letters the judge sends to her. My mother is in some weird mode of living off only what she remembers doing...paying mys sisters way in life. She does not understand that at home care is costly even though she gets a reimbursement for having long term care insurance. My sister came up for a month (before I was conservator) and charged her own mother $8,000.00 for a visit for a month. It was not care, she just visited, but said he "time" was worth being paid??? See how nuts my family is? They are underminding everything I am trying to do good. Any advice PLEASE?

Depending on how advanced the dementia/alz is, I don't think you can make them understand. You can explain the reasons till you're blue in the face, and they will still not understand the need.
So, do what you have to do and make the move as stress free as possible. Blame it on the doctor. Tell them that the Dr. said you can't live alone anymore, maybe that will help.
Good luck.
