The Participating Communities may contact you directly regarding their services. APFM does not endorse or recommend any provider. It is your sole responsibility to select the appropriate care for yourself or your loved one. We work with both you and the Participating Communities in your search. We do not permit our Advisors to have an ownership interest in Participating Communities.
II. How We Are Paid. We do not charge you any fee – we are paid by the Participating Communities. Some Participating Communities pay us a percentage of the first month's standard rate for the rent and care services you select. We invoice these fees after the senior moves in.
III. When We Tour. APFM tours certain Participating Communities in Washington (typically more in metropolitan areas than in rural areas.) During the 12 month period prior to December 31, 2017, we toured 86.2% of Participating Communities with capacity for 20 or more residents.
IV. No Obligation or Commitment. You have no obligation to use or to continue to use our services. Because you pay no fee to us, you will never need to ask for a refund.
V. Complaints. Please contact our Family Feedback Line at (866) 584-7340 or ConsumerFeedback@aplaceformom.com to report any complaint. Consumers have many avenues to address a dispute with any referral service company, including the right to file a complaint with the Attorney General's office at: Consumer Protection Division, 800 5th Avenue, Ste. 2000, Seattle, 98104 or 800-551-4636.
VI. No Waiver of Your Rights. Same here but I spent about $900 on a PureWick urine collection system. The catheters alone were $300 for 30. I personally was a little disappointed in the overall performance as I still have to remove wet diapers. The unit is of faulty design to say the least. Feel like I wasted good money. However to answer your question you may opt to get one and take the urine sample out of the collection canister.
Thanks for the reply Mister Thomas. We have the PureWick, however too many possible contaminants to get good sample. I understand there are services to do in-home foley catheter for a direct sterile sample. I haven't found one yet, but will likely be very expensive.
Is your wife on hospice? When my DH aunt was on hospice and a UTI was suspected, she was given a broad spectrum antibiotic w/o a urine test to treat the symptoms she exhibited...you might discuss this with her care team.
I asked Google if there were UTI testing kits that could be used with a wet diaper. You might try that for some ideas.
A particular website came up that you might want to read through to explore “smart”’ diapers.
You will cleanse her thoroughly and position her on a new clean bedpan. This will be the best you can do. If doc says that isn't good enough she will have to go to the ER where they can straight cath her for a sterile specimen or a nurse or LVN can come to your home to do this in home. That will be discussion for you to have with the doctor ordering the test.
Im not trying to be insensitive, but if she is bed bound , how important is a urine test? Why put you and her through the difficulty of obtaining a sterile urine sample? Being catheterized just to get a urine sample is alot to put her through. Keep her safe and comfortable, and don't put anymore stress on yourself.

If a urine sample is required, either to do a routine dip test or to be sent to the laboratory for testing, this should preferably be taken in the morning – the first time urine is passed that day.
If the person is incontinent and wears incontinence pads, a urine collection pack can be used to draw a sample of urine from the pad. These are usually made up of two urine collection pads, a 5ml syringe and a urine specimen container.
