Find Care & Housing
Hi Barb, I remember you posting that. I'm hoping to take it off by cutting out what I ate the last month out of frustration and exhaustion dealing with the house and getting rid of soooooo much stuff. On day 2 I'm doing better. In a week I may actually weigh myself. Your dinner sounded wonderful. Hope you enjoyed it.

so Riverdale; after my mom passed away (after a LOT of ice cream an alcohol) I signed up with Noom. I lost 25 pounds in 4 months and still working at it. (((hugs)))))

I shouldn't have visited this post. We have been getting our house ready to sell. There is nothing to eat. I am starving. My husband is with the accountant. I wanted to lose some of the weight I put on in the past six weeks. I still do but I feel as though I will pass out. Not really but sort of. I keep the vision in my head of the women in my exercise class where I am heading back to. I don't know how some of them survive. I truly want to ask them but one has to be careful in the south. I will pretend I am dining with some of you.

Ooo, popovers, I used to have a great recipe for cheese ones - I haven't thought of those in a long time.

Grandma1954 - mother put potatoes around the roast too. That was in the days when meat was fatter and the potatoes got crispier on the outside. Onions and carrots could go in too. I am not much of a potato fan, but I put other veggies in there to roast. With a beef roast, mother made Yorkshire pudding batter (like pop overs) and, in the old fashioned way, poured that around the roast or into a square pan with drippings. It got really crispy on the bottom, absorbed some of the beef flavours and was so fluffy on top. It doesn't work these days as there isn't enough fat. Now I make what are essentially pop overs in muffin tins. (when I do it). I used to make Toad in the Hole which is a hearty meal of Yorkshire pudding cooked with sausages in it, which are cooked in the oven partly before adding the batter. Good rib-sticking stuff. How we survived with all that beef fat I don't know, but my blood fats have always been fine.

Breakfast, lunch and supper. Dinner can be the noon meal or the evening meal, but it is the main meal of the day - back in the old days when farmers got up at dawn they needed a big meal at noon so that was dinner. (Though I'm not sure how they managed to carry on after eating without a big nap in the middle of the day)

I try not to snack at midnight. I try not to eat after 7pm. But sometimes if I absolutely need something I will have a piece of 24 grain toast no butter. I love toast! :)
But when I was on my chocolate kick, it was symphony candy bar, whoppers, or hersheys with almonds.

I probably have the most boring dinner posts here. Some of you all post really sounding delicious things.
Dinner here for me was my usual black beans and salad. Mom just had some cereal and DH had steamed venison, mashed potatoes and corn on the cob. I so wish I could get the two of them to eat more salads. But at least we have eliminated strawberry milk from Moms diet. She gave it up on her own. And I have gotten her on board with whole fruit vs juices. Anyway. Happy eating all!!

I wonder how many out there call dinner, supper. And lunch, dinner. My parents have always. Mom still does and I have to always clarify are we talking about dinner or lunch. But she is a beautiful challenge, that I love.

golden23, My Grandma used to take potatoes and half or quarter them and rub them with the saved bacon grease and roast them with the pork roast. The outside was brown and crispy and the inside was fluffy. I do the same thing but do not rub with bacon grease, I par boil baby red potatoes then sort of smush them and put them in a hot pan with a bit of olive oil, rosemary and garlic. I roast them until they are browned. Same crispy outside same creamy inside but no peeling or cutting. And they are great with pork, chicken, lamb!

Oh and my Irish Soda Bread was a hit today, I used a scoop rather than making a large bread, plus the large loaf takes an hour to bake. Doing them small they baked in about 20 minutes.

Roast pork loin -maybe the best one I have ever made. I went heavier on the seasonings - garlic, rosemary, salt (not too much) and lots of black pepper. Put some brussels sprouts to cook beside the roast.

Mmmmm good!!!

Well...scale and distance won. I did not go get the AWESOME Packzi today. I had left over chicken and will try to behave myself until I go on vacation. There is always next year for the Packzi.
This week I am going to make Irish Soda Bread at the Hospice I volunteer at on Thursday. (I am there 4 days a week but my baking day is Thursday) and on Sunday for my Support Group on Monday.

I like to burn a scented candle when we cook. It certainly will help with fish. TJ Maxx has tons that smell nice and are the best prices. Also Target has nice ones. I can't stand ones that are named for a food item. It's good to smell the top to be sure you will like the smell. A nice scent will overpower just about any item you are cooking.

Tomorrow is Ash Wednesday so today we get to go on a guilt free binge in order to clear all the indulgences out of the house before lent begins- Mardi Gras, yay! I am cooking up some curly fries for lunch and have whipped up some cream to go with the crepes I'll make for supper. I have way more than I need, so I put a dollop in my coffee too. Yum.

PolarBear, I'm giggling away like a two year old here -

It's just tickled my funny bone seeing your name, and your avatar, and then the opening words: "It's Friday, so we're having fish."

Seal on Sundays, perhaps..?

It's Friday, so we're having fish. My New Year resolution is to serve fish at least once a week. Not sure what fish, but probably will be baked in the oven to keep the fishy smell down.

I've been doing my grocery shopping at Aldi's for years now. They were off my radar for decades, then I started going a few years ago and now I love them. It's a much smaller store than most grocery stores and always same layout at any location. It has almost everything I need.

Anyway, there was an Aldi location very close to where I live, only a couple of blocks away. I didn't go to that one because it was closed. I went there one evening to shop there, a security man for the strip mall informed me that the store was closed. I took it to mean it was permanently closed. There are 3 other locations within 20 minutes drive of that one, I figured they closed it because they didn't get enough traffic at that location.

I WAS WRONG. IT'S OPEN. It's been open for the entire past year that my primary work location is 5 mins from there, and I also live 5 mins from there. I can't explain my simultaneous joy and *derp* feelings about this, but who cares that I misunderstood what happened when I tried to visit before, because the Aldi 5 mins from my house and work is 🎶 opennnnn 🎶 for the next time I want to pop in. 😃

They have this frozen french bread pizza by Mama Cozzi brand, it is so good. I had my first and second one last night because one wasn't enough. Yum.

My 90 year old caregiver father cooked steak and potatoes out on the grill for him and my mother. He cooked twice as much as they needed so there would be leftovers for another night. He's LEARNING! :)

Love Packzi. There is a great bakery down the street from my house. Too tempting on my walk to work. My mom made good ones. My MIL could as well, but now that she’s older she doesn’t cook much.

Hamburger soup and some Brussels sprouts for more veggies. I came back from a trip south yesterday and always like to have some soup or stew or such frozen for quick healthy meals when I return But that hasn't stopped me from munching on turkey pepperoni sticks during the day. 😉

Well...Tonight I had some left over Chinese food from earlier this week. My sister, her husband and a few friends took me out for my birthday.
I am looking forward to Paczki Day, March 5th. There is one place that sells them near me but the best place is about 60 minutes away. Will have to think about it...are "fat pills" worth the drive? Brain is conflicted, heart says go for them, scale says stay away! Have my first vacation in 5 years scheduled..will 2 or 4 or more Paczki going to make me not want to put on the bathing suit that I reluctantly purchased last week? still going to go and the people that I see or that see me will never see me again! So yeah I will eat a few donuts (aka Paczki aka "fat pills)

I wish I did like milk smeshque for my poor bones, but Iv'e just never cared for it.
My Grandfather ate Grape Nuts and he poured coffee all over them,I think to soften them up.
When I was growing up,we had a milkman that delivered our milk and a little girl down the street often stole ours because they were milk poor and my dH had 6 kids in his Alaskan family and they were milk poor too.

You don't like milk, Lu?

I like honey Bunches of oats, uncle Sam's and the Ezekiel cereals.
I remember as a kid having to eat cereal with water 🤔 because we were milk poor. And I loved cereal.Probably why I love a good cold glass of milk, skim of course. My Mom made cornmeal mush when I was little, I loved it. And rice with sugar and milk.

But now I just like cold cereals, okay and oatmeal with a little brown sugar.
Anyhoo...
