Find Care & Housing

Need - thx I've heard those are good. I was walking in my isotoner slippers which probably wasn't smart. I do have runners which I will use next time and see how they do, I don't need more shoes, in fact I have to get rid of some.

I did some balancing exercises earlier so that may have been part of the problem. ⚖

Golden,

I like Skechers (Go Walk) shoes for comfort.

My whine today: I had a long phone call with my oldest son and my legs are sore. I have a habit of walking when I am on the phone to him as the calls are often about an hour long, That was no problem back at the house, but here the floors are concrete (under the wood) and I am feeling it. It's one of the unforeseen adjustments to the condo!

When I was at the college we all would have sore legs the first week back after summer holidays as the floors there were concrete too and we spent a lot of time on our feet teaching. I guess I'll adjust or wear shoes with thicker soles.

Oh way, that's funny!!! She's stubborn isn't she? I guess if it works for her...

Need - same for your hubs grandmother. In some ways you have to admire their spirit.

Way,

Oh my gosh! Too freaking funny! 😁

My husband’s grandmother refused to move out of her large two story home. She also refused to wear ‘old lady’ shoes!

So, she would climb two flights of stairs in high heels! How the woman didn’t kill herself falling down the stairs is beyond me!

I sort of have a whine to share . At least the old me would have been freaking out over this . But after taking care of 3 of our parents ( now deceased) , DH and I can only laugh at what happened today . 😂😂😂😂. I hope it makes someone else laugh too !

Here goes . Many of you know my FIL died the beginning of last month . MIL lives 4 hours away . We have been for years telling her to put shower grab bars , use a walker , move or get a stair lift etc . All of which she refuses . We believe she is still competent . Ok people , remember this important detail …… MIL BEAR CRAWLS up her stairs .

Today DH called his mother because he needed to know the exact date that his parents’ divorce was final ( 30 years ago ) for some paperwork for FIL’s estate to be settled . ( FIL’s copy along with a lot of other important papers have been MIA since before DH was POA). MIL said she would immediately go upstairs to get that paper and that she knew exactly where it was . She said she would call back . I was listening to DH’s side of this short conversation at the very beginning of our walk for exercise …….

DH and I walked 3 MILES . DH’s phone finally rang and DH said to his mother
“ How many flights of stairs did you climb ?” She said just the one . ( she only has one fight ) . DH asked her if she found the paper right away . His mother said yes .

The old me would have been driving out immediately to assess this situation because it took her so long to get up the stairs . Today all we could do was laugh . We were already planning to go in April for her birthday……..( sooner if needed).

Way, Beatty and Need: Thank you all. I have covered the bases by -
#1 Filling out in detail the comment card from the hospital. I put it in the mail today. At first DH was like "let it go," but he agreed with me when I said "how else would they know they erred unless told?"
#2 I have an appointment on Tuesday with my PCP. I will discuss it with her then.
#3 The new package of dressings came from Amazon today. I was able to shower after DH removed the hospital dressing and he said the wound looked better. Need, thank you. I am told not to apply the A & D ointment while the dressing is on.
#4 The 3" gel mattress topper is enroute.

Llama,

Gosh, that’s frustrating! What is your next step? Did they recommend anything to you?

You definitely should see someone who specializes in wound care. My mother’s home health nurse was excellent! She specialized in wound care. She ordered specific ointment which was paid for by Medicare. It seems like she ordered two different types.

I wish that I could remember the names of the products. Mom died several years ago and I can’t remember the name of the meds that she ordered. I think mom had to leave it on for an extended period of time.

Feeling alone. Attempts to share news (good points & also concerns) diminished & shut down. Again.. why did I bother?

Llama,
Perhaps you can get your primary care physician to write a script “ to be evaluated and treated at the wound care clinic “. Maybe that would work .

So the hospital's written instructions were flawed! They instructed me to go to the Wound Care Clinic. I called the clinic to schedule an appointment today and was told "We only see people with an open, oozing wound." SMH.

HH,

Listening to a kitten purr is so very sweet! I have always been a cat person. I hate that I am horribly allergic to cats, dogs, and many other animals and things.

Way, My daughter just got a little kitten. I’ve never been a cat lover until now. At night this sweet kitty just wants to curl up on my chest and purr.. it’s so peaceful and comforting to listen to her. I’m in love.

Way: Thank you. I know. The problem is in bed, but have the recommended 3" gel mattress topper coming.

Thank you, too, golden and Alva. Bad migraine starting. God is mad at me. I strongly advocated for myself, Alva. They almost saw the not so nice side of Ll.

Way,

Cats are curious creatures!

They just said on the news that the guy didn’t die but is in grave condition.

It’s scary to think about bullets going through the window and killing somebody.

I don’t own a gun. I have friends who are single and have bought guns to protect themselves. They go to target practice on a regular basis.

The EMTs would tell me that sometimes they were afraid to enter homes in fear of being shot. Sad, isn’t it?

Maybe it is my Kitty . She’s been mischievous lately which is odd for her . She’s usually pretty timid and lazy .
I think it’s because I’ve been purging and reorganizing things . She’s nosey about what’s going on .

Need, crime is bad in a lot of places that did not used to have a lot

Geeeeez! Breaking news just now on television about a deadly shooting on the crescent city connection bridge. Traffic is backed up while NOPD investigates. The shootings in the streets are frightening.

Crime is out of hand. A carjacking bill is up for debate where the sentencing will increase from a two year jail sentence to a five year sentence. Both parties are supporting this bill.

I hope our new governor can do something about our crime. He has a background in law enforcement. We’ll see.

I was starting to at least be more pain free but when I did a bit more aching set in so back to elevating it. Hope you guys get back to your profiles soon.

I'm not having connectivity problems on my laptop or on my Verizon cell phone. I'm wondering if it has to do with the widespread issues AT&T has been having today?

Llama:
I hate pressure sores. For this I say followup followup and followup and do not ignore, don't let anyone else ignore.
You all know the by now boring story of how much my bro wished to die rather than facing down the inevitabilies of his probable Lewy's diagnosis, and that he GOT that wish, and I am more and more grateful for that as the years pass and I know what his losses now would be.
BUT he died of sepsis and that of a TINY non healing wound on his shin that he mentioned to no one. What did he use? Triple antibiotic ointment, his usual getting out and walking. But it went to sepsis and MRSA, resistant to all help. One week in hospital. One back home on hospice and he was gone.
This was what he wanted.
But you DON'T. Please watch this and don't ignore as they can QUICKLY go south, causing loss of tissue much in the way a cat abscess does, silently, down under the skin, going toward the bone.
Please take good care of yourself.

Barb, what great news about hubby!
