My mom is forgetting to take her pills more frequently, not everyday but maybe 2-3 times a wk at most. There seems to be a disconnect between the time she starts a task and sometimes what the next step should be to complete the task. She freezes so to speak and goes blank. She is very very distracted and cannot seem to stay on task. I offer to help but she says she ok. She's a very stubborn women so she can be challenging. She's not going to get better is she?

Find Care & Housing
Ask the MD to order a visiting nurse, who will set up a 7 day pill box for her. Let the nurse explain it to her. Our mom would not listen to us, but totally respected the RN's opinion.

Ekkie, your profile has that your Mom has dementia. Is this the case? If so, then she most likely will not get better. There are different types of dementia, so it can be hard to figure out if it will get worse and how fast it will be. We pretty much have to take things as they come. Often it can be like a roller coaster, getting worse then better then worse.

I would let her be as independent as she can be for as long as possible. You and other people can step in where you think she needs help. I have the feeling from what you wrote that you will have a good feel for what she needs and when. I'm glad you found the group. Many people here know what you're going through looking forward.

btw, www.alz.org has some good information on the types and stages of dementia. In all honesty, though, my best information has come from people who are going through the same things.
