My mom has moderate dementia. She is starting to have bladder control issues with accidents during the night. I am using adult diapers and pads for her. I have cut back her fluids at night and giving her meds earlier in the evening. Now she is having trouble with bowel movements. She almost always has poop in her panties or poise pads. She says it just comes out. She doesn’t wipe well either. I don’t know what else to do. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Time for you to take over toilet duties. Was not my favorite thing. She should be wearing Depends all the time. Try to figure out when she does #2. First thing in the morning, after meals and put her on the pot at those times. She is now incontinent.

Hi Milosmom56, sorry your Mom is entering this stage. My mom has been urine incontinent for years and recently more episodes of bowel incontinence. She is unaware when it happens. As JoAnn29 has said, you will have to take over toileting duties. I usually can predict timing but at least once a week it’s a surprise! Quick and proper cleaning are essential to avoid UTI’s. Sounds like your Mom now needs your help in this area. Sorry. Best of luck.
