suegirl, from previous postings it is my understanding that you are now living at your Mom's house.

Are these items that you would pack in a box to go with you back to California to your own home? Use that are your guide as to if these items are worth any value or are sentimental items, or plain old knick knacks.

If your Mom is still of sound mind, she can give away whatever she wants. She probably enjoys the outside attention. But if you think she is buying her friendship with these "friends", it might be time to pack and store those items you wouldn't want to see her handing out to just anyone on the street.

What a great answer, FF. Mom lived in her home for 50 years. After she passed, I kept practically nothing of hers. They meant nothing. When she moved in with me, I took her jewelry...all costume. If it would have given her joy to give away her knick-knacks, I'd have helped her. Lladros, Waterford, 99% of that stuff is sentimental. Good advice. Clear out those items that mean something. Don't sweat the rest.

If our Mother were of sound mind, all the things wouldn't be missing. And I did bring home to Ca. Many things. $400. In shipping- but worth so much more to me. But already the VULCHERS ARE starting to circle.Taking advantage of a Elderly Widow. I really don't need to worry. God will take of them. Im going back soon to help Brother.

*There should be Federal punishment/fines/imprisonment/"National-RatBasterd-Stealing-from-the-Elderly" List [ like the National List for Sexual preditors ]. We just put in cameras and monitor ( Yes, I know it's Orwellian ) her so that when her Happy-Friends show up at least we know that they were there and that "IF" something went missing there is a record...Lots of Luck...
