Mom is 85 years old with mid-stage dementia and lives with me. Last night did this with mom and it was a hit. We took brightly colored Fruit Loop type cereal and strung it on sting with a knot tied at the end. Today I will put them out for the birds to eat somewhere where mom can see them from a window. An easy version of stringing popcorn because the hole is already in the cereal. We had fun! If you try it I hope you and your LO do as well We snacked on them while stringing LOL Beh! I don't like Fruit Loops or other sweetened cereal but grabbed a big bag of store brand ones thinking the colors would be a good idea for introducing the activity and fun for Christmas. In the future I think we will use store brand of O's - like Cheerios - much better for snacking than the sweet one and better for the birds too! Since she enjoyed this I am thinking stringing beads to make necklaces might be a good winter craft. Any other suggestions? I have a picture of the strung cereal but don't see how to post it.

That's a great craft idea. I think I might try it with my young niece.

My cousin who has dementia, is no longer able to use her hands that well. I was sad to see that over the last month she can't put on gloves or even use her hands to roll her wheelchair, but for those who can, it sounds like an activity they would enjoy doing, especially for those who like to keep their hands busy.

Glad your strung cereal worked out well! Crafts for kids are good, as they are usually easier and simpler than crafts made for adults.
