Look up "grabber" on Google, to get an idea of what devices look like. You may be able to find one at the drug store. These are for picking up things like socks and papers and a towel -- not for picking up a box of books. Is that what you wanted?

My Mom has 3 grabbers throughout the house - she can pick up a dime with them! If you have a medical supply store near by, they will have them.
