My 89 year old tends to place objects like towels or panties over the heaters I get her. I am concerned with the fire hazard. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Only suggestion would be those large pretend fireplaces that have built-in electric heater. They are expensive plus you would need space.

We have a few of those "amish"style ones.. they don't get hot to touch and the top is flat like a table, so you can set things on them and they don't get hot. They put out alot of heat for money

What a Great Idea. I think that will work. I had forgotten about the fireplace heaters! I just ordered one from Amazon! Thanx so much.

The fireplace heaters with a cabinet around them are *awesome*. We needed a new TV stand, and I was looking for one that would fit right into the corner of the room - I found one that had the TV stand and the fireplace all in one. I had to put it together myself, but to be honest, it wasn't hard to do at all. The top of the fireplace unit stays cool - never gets hot at all - so there's no chance of damaging the TV or cable box above it on the TV stand - the heat blows straight out from the unit, not up. Mom absolutely loves the flickering flame effect and the glowing logs - I just set it up last night, and she's probably told me 10 times today how much she loves it. Totally worth it.
