I know that a pt. Is suppose to have rights but I know that not to be true and the reason I know is because of what hospice is doing to my uncle. He is receving your so called end of life care. He is afraid of his wife he did not stand up for himself he told the chapoline that works for hospice that he did not want to die and then he went talk to my uncle crazy wife and they went to his room and still his wishes were not granted I have never heard of a wife or hops ice having a right to take a person right away them. I have been a CNA for 15 years and I have never seen such neglect and abuse of one power. I will never forget or forgive hops ice or my uncle wife. I hope you feel bad when you read this you should. Hopsice is bad in my book they kill people.

I had a hard time understanding you. I do think however, you do not have all the facts.

You wrote "Hospice is bad....they kill people" but that sort of doesn't make sense; hospice is for end of life comfort care, for people who are dying......so hospice care is not killing anyone--the person is already dying, or they wouldn't be in hospice.

Hospice is not for people who "want to die." It is not assisted suicide. It is for people who ARE DYING, whether they want to or not. Hospice does not kill people.

My husband was on hospice care in our home. Hospice made him comfortable and supported me. They taught me things that helped me know what was happening, and to help my husband not have pain or anxiety. After his autopsy, his doctor told me it was surprising he survived as long as he did. Hospice did NOT kill him or hasten his death. The disease took him.

My mother was on hospice care in a nursing home, for about 3 months. She surprised everyone by getting a lot better and hospice discharged her from their care. They certainly weren't trying to make her die!

I am very sorry for your Uncle's condition. Having a loved one in an end-of-life situation is very distressing and sad.

Hospice is there to help with the journey, they don't kill people in my experience. The make the journey more comfortable with medications. In my experience with hospice, they ask the patient what kind of care they want, if your uncle is on hospice, maybe his viewpoint has changed about his end of life care. It's difficult when a loved on is dying. Spend time with your uncle while you can.

His wishes should be paramount, actually. What specifically does he want done that is not being done? Is it something realistic that could be done? Not wanting to die would be totally normal....and if its just the IDEA of hospice he is objecting to, when it might be the one thing that is allowing his wife to care for him at home, maybe it is not as inappropriate as it seems to you. That said, all hospices do not always do everything right, and if this is one of those cases where it is not right, there is likely some recourse. Can you share additional details?

I have a suggestion about the way you posted though...You wrote "I hope you feel bad when you read this you should" and some of us are in a very heart-aching kind of place (just as you must be!) and could take that wrong, like you were wanting us to feel bad or worse than we already do even though we are not the cause of your uncle's situation and are here to try to help and support one another.
