Mum needs to take night tablets or she is awake all night so Dad is awake all night too. She can swallow them it's just that she refuses to take them (if she is in one of those moods). We have tried them in food but she eats so little and can taste them. I'm sure we are not the only ones with this problem so any suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks

MIx it with a milk shake. Crush the pill, make a milkshake. What type of pill is it? Ambien is very small, and serequel is small but not as small as ambien. One pill in a milkshake.. Almost sounds like Princess & the Pea.

What is her favorite food? Crush the pill, if doctor allows it, and serve it up in a mildshake, or perhaps in pea soup? Thank goodness she still has some wits about her. Or, give your dad the pill, at least someone will sleep.

Can she walk? Perhaps take her for a walk before giving her the pill with treat. Frozen yogurt? Does the medication come in liquid form? Perhaps you can ask what type or shape that medication comes in. I take ambien in the bar form, so I can break it in half if I only need half....

Do you have one of those old pharmacy mortar and pistol bowls made out of granite? These crush pills really fine, and most likely a very small milkshake or treat would cover the taste of the pill. She wants to be in control... I don't blame her...

Be sure you check with the doctor/pharmacist before crushing tablets or opening capsules. And you might want to do a taste test of whatever is in that capsule before mixing it with her food, some are extremely bitter and would be easily noticed. That could create a whole new set of problems with her not trusting you or any food you give her.

Could you fib a little and tell her it will help her feel better? Most elderly have some arthritis or something that hurts somewhere.

Thank you all so much for suggestions. The tablets are in a capsule with powder inside. Going to try Ice Cream/Sorbet. Again many thanks.
