Many facilities have licenses that allow alcohol to be served. I am having lunch with a friend today that in in an Independent Living facility and they have a room where residents can keep their bottles locked. It is like a lounge. the Hospice facility where I volunteer has a liquor license in case any of the patients would like a drink. When my Husband was in Day Care and also Respite in a MC facility there was a resident that would have a bottle of beer on occasion. As long as it does not interfere with medication, amount reasonable so that it does not pose more of a fall risk I seen no problem with allowing an occasional drink.
It is allowed at momma's facility I think? It depends on who you talk too. One person would say no and then the other would say yes. Momma likes to drink wine in her room and she told me that one of the aids said that she could not have it. Momma got fired up. Nothing was said about it again and I didn't either.
There was a younger dude at my mom's nursing home kept a 6 pack of beer in the nursing home fridge, I suspect he probably would have got the DT's if they cut him off.
That is up to each facility. I know at my brother's ALF facility it was allowed, and there were in fact even "happy hours" on certain evenings in the main lodge.

I would ask at the facility you are considering.
