Aren't we being a little harsh captain? I've seen some of the behavior Pam mentions in my dad. His dementia became obvious to me when he could no longer fix simple things on his car or around the house. Dad was an electrician and could always build or fix anything. 4 years ago he began repeating questions maybe Once per hour. Now it's more like every ten minutes.

Early signs- scratches on all four corners of the car. Getting lost when driving to a familiar place. Blows his top if you say anything about it. Gets suspicious and starts opening all of YOUR mail. Forgets to tell you about a social event and acts very irritated when you are not ready for it, because you just don't listen to him.
Loses his keys or phone or wallet and insists it is all your fault. Showers only once a week and wears the same slacks for a month. Decides to put his SS check into his credit union instead of your joint checking account. His reasoning is that you spend too much.
Forgets how to disassemble something that he has taken apart many times before, like the gas grill. This can get very exciting when he turns on the left burner and tries to light the right one.
Trades in his Oldsmobile for a Cadillac. This makes him feel BIG. Then he curses like a fool when he finds out how expensive they are to maintain.
Tells you he wants to go to Florida for the winter. You start looking for Condo's and when you find a decent one he says "Are you nuts?"
