Want to just say. Mom had a Dr. who stood in for primary at the hospital because primary had no privledges. This same Dr. Would make rounds at 7am to be able to get to his practise for office hours. This same doctor was one of four or five who was willing to go into the local nursing homes to see patients. Yes, he sent a NP into the facilities but would be called in if NP felt he was needed. I had problem with a discharge. I had a nurse call him and he talked to me and gave Mom an extra day. What I am getting at is Drs. are very busy people. But they hire staff for a reason. Someone should always get back to you. If trying to contact him becomes a problem then u may Want to find another doctor. But DO bring up not getting a return call.

When he asks why you are there I would say because he never returned your calls so u made an appt. In fairness, he may not have gotten the message and his staff is responsible. Then explain that since Mom has been on the new med what you have seen.

I Didn't care for Moms doctor but she had him for years. There was nothing so serious that I felt I needed to change Drs. I never heard from him directly but a nurse usually called me back. A NP is OK but someone from his office should have contacted you with 24 hrs. I would point this out. Maybe saying "I was surprised someone from your Office Didn't return my call in a timely manner."

Is doc a gerontolgist or a neurologist? It is common to switch meds, they are looking for a combo that will work for mom.

New medication was Haldol and I called a week ago. When I went in I did tell the doctor that I had called and that no one returned my phone call & that was why I did a walk in. He did mention that there may be something wrong with the phone and that that's a problem. He prescribed cogentin for her side effects & told me to wein her off the haldol and to increase the seroquel.
