Ma is having trouble sitting down while bathing, but will not shower and does not want a chair. I have tried a water pillow, but I cannot have both non slip mat and pillow as one will not stick to the other.

Anybody tried such a thing?

Do you mean she is having trouble getting all the way into the tub? Or that the regular tub mat is too hard?

She is having trouble getting all the way into the tub. Getting out seems to be okay for her, but she is afraid of breaking a hip or something and wants to land on a pillow or something padded The regular non slip mat does not have any padding...

In the long run getting her used to a chair and showers is best. But in the mean time what about a small inflatable floaty? It would provide a cushion.

How about the anti-fatigue floor mats? Those are about 1 inch thick, waterproof, easy to clean, and don't absorb soap or debris. And they are just the right size for a bath tub. You can stack 3 of them to achieve the desired thickness. Here's the link for the mats on Amazon.
