Let me feel peaceful. Not concerned, worried, or anxious. I have pills that work. But that doesn't take away all the anxiety. And with things that could cause problems or go wrong so many days I have trouble feeling calm.

What's the point in spending any time and energy thinking about all the things that COULD go wrong - what danger lies around every corner.

I could get in a car accident. Slip in the shower and hit my head. My son could turn the stove on and burn the house down. There could be a gas leak. I could be sitting in my house - in my favorite chair, avoiding the dangers of the outside world and have a heart attack.

This is no way to live. In fact, it's not living - not really. So I push the negative thoughts away and take my chances doing the best I can to be smart and safe about the choices I make - while not letting those choices impinge on living a full life. After all, I've only got one life and I sure don't want to waste it by becoming stagnant and fearful.

I think most people live the same way. If you find you are unable to live your life because of fear and worry - perhaps you need to become more aggressive in your mental health care. See your therapist more often. If your medication isn't doing it's job - ask about a higher dose or a different medication. Stop wasting your life inventing problems where there are none!

And yes, at times I wish everyone would go away and leave me be for a while. I'll bet everyone has that thought from time to time. It's NORMAL! Stop worrying about it and if you can't - pick up the phone and make an appointment with your therapist - cause now you're worrying about your worrying.

Sometimes, I feel anxious too. But, I find that being around other people who are anxious or worried, makes me feel overly anxious. I try to avoid those people and do things that lift my spirit.

Just last weekend I was feeling the need for a little lift. I just got in my car and went for a drive playing this CD that I just got on sale. I LOVE this old song by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers called Islands in The Stream! Boy, that song always makes me smile. Check it out. You can find it on You Tube. That was before Dolly was skinny and Kenny had plastic surgery. Both looked pretty good too. lol

Dear Hadnuff,

Sorry to hear how you feel. I know we all have days where we want to run away from our lives. It is hard. I too have anxiety and it hard for those around us to understand. Try to be as kind and gentle with yourself as you can. I know its easier said than done.

If you can watch a movie that makes you happy, listen to a song that cheers you, go for a walk, eat your favorite foods, call a good friend for a chat. Even going for a walk can be uplifting. Try small things and go from there.

And if you need to, seek our resources in the community or church. Or try counselling or joining a support group. There is help. Please know we are all here to listen and support you. Thinking of you.

Let go of the "Let me feel peaceful. Not concerned, worried, or anxious."
Change this to "I feel peaceful, confident and at ease." Look in the mirror and affirm this (or words more to your liking) to yourself many times a day. Your brain believes whatever you tell it. Sort of a fake it till you make it approach.
