My father has been diagnosed with dysphasia and needs all of his liquid beverages to be thickened. He receives both clear and cranberry flavored at all his meals. Will Medicare pay for this with a doctor order??

You need to contact Medicare, they do cover some thickening products but not all. Is your dad on Medicaid too? Because some state Medicaid programs will pay for thickeners as well.

My father had dysphasia, and also had to also have thickened liquids.    It wasn't that difficult to do it for him, but I was at his house often anyway.

When he had been in rehab, the home care team included a speech therapist, who handled that task as well as providing speech therapy (exercises).   That's the only way I can think of to get Medicare support.    But there may be other options.   I never asked anyone b/c I had done it a decade or so before during a previous dysphagia episode, which was far more serious.

A product called Thick-It, as well as others which I don't remember, could be purchased at a chain grocery store or drug stores.    There are 2 levels of thickening, depending on a speech pathologist's DX.    (I don't remember the specific names of the different levels.)   The difference is the added amount of thickener.

Your best bet is either to ask the doctor or whoever performed the speech eval, or call Medicare directly.
