Mom fell and was taken to the hospital. After 3 days she was placed in a nursing home rehab facility. After 3 weeks she had made very little progress, and that said they would have to end rehab (and so ends the Medicare). We chose a different nursing home where we could place her, and they'd continue working with her. Well she took some steps the past few days and they said she could stay in rehab.

I know there are rules about Medicare coverage in these cases, but I'm not familiar with them. I hope some others around here will respond to your question. Have you talked to the director at the nursing home facility about it?

Will do hopefully tomorrow. Our family has been discussing options over the weekend. I was looking for part of the puzzle. Thank you.

The best folks to ask this question of might be the facility she is currently in. I believe if she is making progress they can help with getting Medicare coverage for therapy. It would most likely only be partially covered as Medicare covers 20 days at 100% reimbursement and the next 80 days at 80% so there would be a copay.

Talk to the business office at the facility tomorrow.

My mom is in a nh; she gets reevaluated for pt all the time. She plateaus, they discontinue therapy. If she starts to get weak we nudge them to reevaluate and they do. She gets therapy for a few weeks, plateaus and we start over.
