My husband does not believe he has Alz. Simple old age he keeps saying. He thinks he is taking Namenda to PREVENT the Alz. Therefore, I have discussed his Alz with our dr only when I am there for myself. Wondered if it is widely accepted - or not - to make an appointment for the sole purpose of asking questions and discussing what to do and how with my spouse and the problems with Alz.

Thank you - I never thought about the POA which I and my son both have.

Weeone, the MD can only discuss his case if you have been signed off as a Health Care Proxy or POA. You can say anything you want, and you should, to make the MD understand how this affects your health.

I discovered that making an appointment as mom's POA was the best way to get prescription renewals or deal with any other concerns I might have. It's a good way to keep the doctor updated on my concerns as well, since mom no longer leaves the house for medical appointments. (Our doc does occasionally do home visits, but I can speak more freely about any problems without mom there)
