Well, employees of HH are mandated reporters.
If they are in a situation where they believe an elder is at risk, they can’t by law, just walk away.
The social worker will investigate and make recommendations. It could be HH has overreacted. It could be your mom has to have more care. Conditions must be really poor for them to take action. If you realistically can’t care for your mom or she won’t allow it then this can be a good thing. If she is deemed in danger then a state guardian might be appointed and she might be moved to a facility where she can have supervised medical care. I hope it works out for all concerned.

In your profile you write that your mother insists on living alone. It may be that she can no longer do so, and the social worker will make that clear to her and get the ball rolling for more care or placement.

I think that you should see this as a step in the right direction. Your mother needs more care. The social worker will be able to see that she gets it.

This is good news.

You explain on your profile that you've done everything you can think of to persuade your mother to accept help, and she wouldn't budge.

So, the home health worker agreed with YOU! - and has got the professionals involved. If I were you I should give them a call, tell them what you've told us, and offer co-operation. You are not to blame for your mother's decisions, and they know that. Don't be anxious about what they will think.

When my mom had home care part of the standard procedure was an evaluation by a social worker. They assess the level of care needed partly so they send a qualified caregiver. They will also do what the other posters have listed. Nothing to worry about.

If she is on Medicaid it is part of the program. This person is her case manager and is there to help mom to get the appropriate level of care.
